I spent the day photographing wildlife at St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge in Florida and stumbled upon this pod of baby gators sunning themselves on a log. Mom was about 10 feet away keeping an eye on them. Okay, she was more than likely keeping an eye on me. This photo was taken with the equivalent of a 900mm lens from a safe distance. Please, do not approach dangerous wildlife without appropriate equipment or training.
Wes, What an awesome shot! You caught mom and babies ~ encompassing full action from a great angle. Love those little striped babies!
I almost missed them. Was actually checking out a bird nearby. Walked right by the gators twice and was almost back to truck when I noticed the weird looking log in the water. Checked it out and saw the babies. Knew Mom was close by, but didn’t actually see her until I started framing up the shot. Thought she was just another log in the water. Such great camouflage in that water.
